What's New in QuickBooks Online for 2026 (and What It Means for Your Books)

QuickBooks Online has added more new tools in the past year than in many years before. Most are built on Intuit's AI, which it calls Intuit Intelligence. Here are the updates small business owners will notice most, based on Intuit's Summer 2026 product update.
1. Invoicing on autopilot
QuickBooks can now draft invoices from documents you've saved, like a quote or sales order, and schedule payment reminders. You review each invoice before it goes out. This is in beta with monthly limits, on Essentials, Plus and Advanced.
2. Custom automations in plain English
You can describe a task in everyday words, such as "remind customers 7 days after an invoice is overdue," and set it on a schedule. Templates are available too. Available on all plans, with limits by plan.
3. "What if" scenarios and forecasting
Ask questions like "What happens to my profit if I hire someone in March?" and QuickBooks runs the scenario and forecasts your profit and loss. Available on all plans, with limits by plan.
4. Dashboards and a KPI scorecard
New pre-built dashboards show cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheet health at a glance, on Essentials and Plus. Advanced adds custom dashboards and a report builder that flags unusual numbers.
5. Getting paid and paying bills
Standard ACH bill payments are free with Bill Pay, customers can pay invoices over time with Affirm, and Tap to Pay now works on Android phones. Fees can still apply for chargebacks and returned payments.
6. Everyday fixes you'll appreciate
Better bank-transaction matching, safeguards during reconciliation, the ability for the primary admin to undo a reconciliation, more reliable bank connections, and faster bill payments.
Should you trust AI with your books?
These tools can save hours, but they still make mistakes. A miscategorized expense can mean a missed deduction or a wrong tax return. Review what the AI suggests, reconcile accounts monthly or have a professional take care of your books.
